Getting rare materials from the ground into your phone is ugly. The mining industry is responsible for air and water pollution and the destruction of entire landscapes. But what if we could replace the mining industry on Earth with a clean process that can’t harm anyone? Well, we can. All we need to do is look up.

The truth is we could mine asteroids by 2025, the technology is there. The problem is money. And the human brain seeks money.
Replace money with blockchain and human psychology with artificial intelligence and you will see a vast reduction in the time it takes for a widely beneficial technology like Asteroid Mining to go from concept to diffusion. The time gap would be reduced to months and weeks, instead of waiting years and decades for funding and corporate investment.

What is wrong with the world? we are destroying the entire planet and we don't even have an easy way to escape earth if the planet were to die because of all the things we are doing. The next time you throw a piece of trash on the ground and think "its only one piece, it won't hurt anything.", think about the other hundreds of people who think the same thing. suddenly that "small piece" becomes a huge problem. Dear god, its a miracle we haven't destroyed the planet yet.

Asteroid prospecting could also become an independently operated industry. Read some on Larry Nivens sci fi from the 1960s where he had characters in small ships exploring the asteroid belt to find rare and desirable elements and staking their claim. You would probably need some kind of fusion powerplant or highly efficient drive and definitely some bulletproof life support technology.
