This video is part of a series about climate change supported by Breakthrough Energy - a coalition founded by Bill Gates, that is working to expand clean-energy investment and support the innovations that will lead the world to net-zero carbon emissions.

Since the Industrial Revolution, humans have released over 1.5 trillion tonnes of carbon dioxide or CO2 into the earth's atmosphere. In the year 2019 we were still pumping out around 37 billion more. That’s 50% more than the year 2000 and almost three times as much as 50 years ago. And it’s not just CO2. We’re also pumping out growing volumes of other greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. Combining all of our greenhouse gases, we’re emitting 51 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents each year.
And emissions keep rising - but they need to get down to 0!

What a stupid dumbass video. Everybody is responsible for that. And even if we stop emitting CO2 from a day to another, temperatures are gonna raise anyway. Renewable technologies are the biggest hypocrisy of all time. Windmills are an ecological disaster, and if we produce electricity with nuclear energy or solar panels only, what do you think will happen? Everything's gonna change? There are so many other problems like the lack of resources, water, and so on. And also, we will have to manufacture our products closer than China. If you live in the US, your products will have to be manufactured there. Which makes that China is gonna become poor again, and that it won't emit CO2 anymore as much as it does now. At the moment the most important is to figure what technology we will need to use in order to catch CO2, to convert sea water in drinkable water and so on. Then we will slowly reduce CO2.

It would be more informative by putting Co2 in perspective rather than attributing blame, guilt and accountability. Co2 comprises 0.4% of the air we breathe. 97% of Co2 is from natural sources which means man's contribution is 0.03% which is statistically insignificant. By comparing nations ability to reduce emissions is pointless as targets agreed to at the Paris accord are voluntary. Blaming fossil fuels which the world currently depends on without elaborating on the efficiency or lack thereof of reliable alternatives is an oversight. How in the world do you think the climate can be stabilized? Its ridiculous.

@Kloko Loko Try this experiment; open and cold beer and witness the slow release of Co2 in gaseous bubbles. Next, open a warm beer and see how affects the release of Co2. Could it be that Co2 follows temperature increase?

      Kloko Loko

      3 dögum síðan

@pranavananda7 Measure it in what ever unit you want, you will get same result. We increased CO2 in air 50% in last 150 years from 280ppm to 420ppm this is a fact . Type in google: CO2 last 800 000 years and see where was it before us humans.

      pranavananda7

@Kloko Loko measuring Co2 in tonnes is certainly part of the carbon trading scheme, carbon offsets and taxation. In reality man's contribution to atmospheric Co2 is negligible.

    • Kloko Loko

Can you calculate how much CO2 weight in atmosphere? It's 3250 billion tons and in first 10 sec of this video it say that we emitted so far in atmosphere 1500 billion tons. So it's not 0.03%. You sell petrol?

They dont take everything in account though. Co2 that got emitted 100 years ago is no longer around and also the awareness of what it might do to the environment was non existing, so you cant really point fingers to that. That being said, I do think the richer countries should invest more in anti climate change, and also China needs to step up big time. They are currently the major contributor to co2 emmissions and saying "its our right to keep doing it, because you did it in the past" is just the most childish attitude imaginable.

You are right, it is unfair to ask developing countries to remain poor. The developed countries got lucky by being first, and created the problem. Now, they want the rest of the world to pay for their sin.
At least China is working very, very hard to grow sustainably. They are actually more environmentally conscious than the developed West. China produces more green energy than any other nation. China is going in big with EVs. China has reforested millions of hectares of barren land. China aims to be carbon-neutral by 2060. Given China's enormous population, this is still a remarkable goal.

So - basically the developed countries have already done their part in polluting the environment useless, and the developing countries won't be giving up their opportunity to... well, develop. While the clock is ticking, most people doesn't feel the change on their skins, or don't believe it until it is far too late (it is already too late).
So, sorry folks, this is it. Our grandchildren will "enjoy" a barely livable environment with everything it includes, that is, if our children won't die in the "survival of the fittest 100 million" of the 8B people currently polluting Earth. This sucks, in a magnitude we can't even comprehend today (and wouldn't even dream about 50 years ago).

Water as a constant is impossible. The Earth must go through cycles.
Is 10000 revolutions around the Sun a long time? It's all relative.
The warming could be natural. We could be at 9200 revolutions with 800 left.
Something might pass through our solar system every umpteen thousands of years and Block out the Sun long enough for our atmosphere to fall to the Earth like frost and freeze most of the water...
Once the Sun shines again it takes thousands of years to recreate our atmosphere and then thousands of years to get back to over heating.
Enjoy the weather while at lasts..

    前面一大段,看似公允,但说到最后仍然把所有矛头指向中国,意即中国在全世界碳排放责任最多,前面说了那么多看似公平公正的内容其实都是让大家接受最后这一句盖棺定论。

It is so frustrating when you realize that we are literally trapped in our own system. The root to all of this is wealth/money/power. Also most of the shit that we buy originates in the west, most famous brands are western and we outsource all of our production to cheap countries like China and then blame them for Co2 Emissions. Europe, USA, you did a great fucking job, genius!

Fun fact: German politicians are so corrupt that RWE, one of the biggest brown coal producers in Germany was able to bribe our them so that they don't prohibit the farming of brown coal until the year of 2032, which is let's be real too late. Lobbyism is a thing in a lot of countries.

Coming from one of the highest CO2 emissions per capita. And the reductions nationally is mainly a product of outsourcing production to developing countries, adjust for trade and you have a different picture. The US is still number on in accumulated CO2, which is the problem we’re facing, and still top 15 in CO2 per capita. The US has a long way to go!

Human is not responsible for climate change. Thats a dot. It has been evolved long since last iceage. and those changes makes earth liveable. There is no crisis. Media is making one.

@audaudin it is a slight prosentual amount that humans are involved. Seek out more information and it will open your eyes. just keep in mind that compare every media that swells into your mind. You can do it .
