Since the Industrial Revolution, humans have released over 1.5 trillion tonnes of carbon dioxide or CO2 into the earth's atmosphere. In the year 2019 we were still pumping out around 37 billion more. That’s 50% more than the year 2000 and almost three times as much as 50 years ago. And it’s not just CO2. We’re also pumping out growing volumes of other greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. Combining all of our greenhouse gases, we’re emitting 51 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents each year.
And emissions keep rising - but they need to get down to 0!

Wait. All this talk of technology, fossil fuel burning for long periods of time, "lifestyle emissions"... do these figures take into account CO2 emissions and environmental damage from destroying rain forests and other natural environments that release CO2 when destroyed, due to large amounts of locked up CO2 being released? I bet it doesn't, and if you did, you'd see the developing countries contributing a lot more to CO2 problems than what you present here.

Mass chunks of the population die off do to climate change if not extinction. Whatever is left will live like a hybrid between 1700s and today. Why cause the current system of nation states is broken and we are too comfy and in denial to work together. We don't care about each other its everyone for themselves.

The United States is still the country with the most carbon dioxide emissions. Due to the country's high degree of industrialization and more thermal power plants, the carbon dioxide emissions of power plants in the United States alone account for 25% of the total emissions of power plants in the world.
China is the only country closest to the United States in terms of emissions. However, China’s per capita carbon dioxide emissions are only 2 tons, and each American emits no less than 9 tons of carbon dioxide each year. Australia, which ranks seventh in the world in terms of total emissions, actually emits 11 tons of carbon dioxide per capita, ranking first in the world. It is worth mentioning that the carbon dioxide emitted by the Australian power company is very alarming. In addition, its livestock emissions are also a major factor. Although Australia and the United States are the world’s largest “polluters”, they are reluctant to join any international agreement on reducing emissions. They have not signed the "Kyoto Protocol" that will expire in 2012 before, and it seems that they do not want to join in the future.

We won't reduce emissions even at that point, but we'll proably let the refugees in, even under a conservative government. I wouldn't be surprised if the emmisions simply never stop, so many people will die the government will just impose something similar to lockdown.

Thereby reducing it by 34.7 million tons.

I just don't think that we will get anywhere by trying to force them to do anything , if we want their emissions to stop then we have to offer them alternatives. But China did actually sign the Paris agreement so let's just see what the future brings.

@Bluesbr0ther solar power, are commonly used in rural areas, because it is cheaper than connecting them to the electric grid. In terms of wind power, I do not dispute that but it is one of the worst kind of green energy. :-) In terms of hydro electric energy, China has been using their dams on the Mekong River to create the worst drought in recent Mekong history. At least according to Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and satellite pictures. And there has been a lot of political disputes over their dams. But sure they are doing something. But not on any level that really matters. :-/ I care for the planet as much as anybody else. And after living in China and seeing the scams that they are conducting to look green. Such as fake solar panels, fake mini windmills, "recycle" trash bins that are full of normal trash, etc.:-) It is about face. And of course it is a country. :-D Håber du har en god påske.

@Taiwan is a country Det er jo så dit valg , personligt vil jeg kalde det en succes at vi har gjort det i Kina. . China has the fastest growing renewable energy sector in the world so despite what many people say ,they are doing something at least. They are the nr 1 generator of wind power where they generate more than the next 3 countries combined. They are the nr 1 in solar too where they generate more than the next 4 countries combined. And in hydro they are also nr 1 and generate more than the next 4 combined. . And btw , i agree. Taiwan is a separate country.

@bonnie wood Also btw being an Indian does make me an expert. I know way more about my country than you do. Fyi, stayed here for 26 years. Moreover this rumour that the Californian anti vax company spread never mentioned the names of the kids who "got infected", the name of the city or town this incident took place in or the details of the apparent lawsuit filed against Bill Gates or any other reasoning for why Bill Gates was in India in Jan. . The reason they didn't provide it because they faked it :] Now time to go back to watching cartoon network. Since basic facts, data and science aren't meant for jobless trolls like you :]

@bonnie wood Nope. Nothing has happened here. Fake information. The UN also never admitted that. And the reason you don't have any proof is because it didn't happen. India has been 100% polio free since 2012. Fyi, a rumour spread by a Californian anti vax company on Facebook isn't the same as an incident actually happening. Nice try chump. Now go back to watching cartoon network.

@TitanNish Art Being Indian doesn't make you an expert on everything in your country. Although there are conflicting reports, there is sufficient information about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's vaccine activity to warrant further investigation. The UN has admitted to infantile paralysis in African countries related to the vaccines. As for the other comments, look up the FACTS for yourself, and allow me my sarcastic commentary on Gates's and Gore's obvious hypocrisy. Having an opinion on the lifestyle of famous people - especially ones trying to impact the lives of the rest of us - is allowable. In the news recently: Billy boy is apparently in favor of using technology to affect the amount of sunlight reaching the earth. There are plans in the works, even though the consequences haven't been fully studied.

Does everyone know there used to be a bridge between Asia and North America.until some ice melted? Does everyone know the UK used to be connected to Europe until some ice melted? (The latter reportedly happened very rapidly.) OH NOOOO!
Guess those cave men shouldn't have been emitting so much carbon! Too many campfires, obviously.

No one should care about per capita based on the world system we currently participate in. Each country is responsible for their output regardless of how many humans their country chooses to have. Either way the U.S. , China and EU need to not only lead , but drastically clean up their act.

EU? EU is not 1 country. By that logic , South America should clean up their act. So should Africa. Per capita is the right way to look at the numbers. Because if it is total numbers we look at , then small countries can emit as much as they want and never be near the top of the list anyways.

Per capita is infact the most accurate factor. The world is owned equally by each and every human and not each and every country equally, countries are just man made boundaries. A poor malnourished Indian or Chinese has the equal stake in this world's ownership as a well fed rich white man and they also bear equal duties towards it.

The third question is bias. A country like Canada is vast and will need resources spread out across the land which will necessitate the use of more carbon gases. This doesn't even factor the bone chilling Sub-Zero Winters that Northern countries have which will also require heating and hence carbon fuels. We don't all have Sunshine 300 days a year in good weather.

im an american and i live below averagely well compared to the average american but EXTREMELY well compared to literally the entire known universe (lol that includes "just" earth for now of course but its still technically true).
am i willing to just give up my many many superflourish luxuries to literally do no good? lol no. i am not.
would i give them up them up if i got a reasonable one time monetary stipend (i could pay it back over several years) to build and/or design my own carbon nuetral home with access to organic locally grown food and enough land for privacy? absolutely.
it could be done for everyone and it wouldnt even cost all that much especially when considering my, and many other, countries believe sailing massive aircraft carriers, destroyers, and supply ships 24/7/365/infinity to kill a few thousand hillbillies (and terrorising and murdering civilians for oil executives' profits) in the middle east is a worthy billion-dollars-a-second expense.
or we could all just slaughter the rich en masse. execute every capitalist and go full socialist. that would solve every problem we have now forever. not saying we'd found a utopia and more problems wouldnt happen, just saying all our current ones would dissapear literally overnight.

everybody stop pumping pollution in one year or kicked out of the UN.
that way when we start the inevitable ww3 we can all gang up on the stinky countries.
renewables are actually far cheaper and easier to maintain but everybody's a lazy lardass
so we give each other some...initiative.

One aspect is forgotten and is very important. Is China really the only responsible for its manufacturing emissions, when most of the products are used by western countries. Shouldn't we put a part of the blame on the consumer? Who's is really responsible : the chinese worker or the western rich person who buy too many useless stuff ?
